English with Kirsty – episode 194
Better business networking in English
You can listen to episode 194 here:
Today I’m speaking with Jane Eggers from Jane Eggers Translations about our tips and experiences when it comes to attending business networking meetings in other languages. We hope that the things that have worked for us might also work for you too if you find yourself in similar situations, or if you want to attend more of this kind of meeting to present yourself or your business in English.
Even if this isn’t relevant to you, many of our ideas will also work if you’re taking part in meetings in English, or any other additional language that you may have.
Jane is originally from London and has lived in Germany since 1995. She’s a German-to-English translator specialising in business IT. After many years working as an in-house translator for a large software company, she left to set up her own translation business in 2015 and has never looked back!
Jane thought of another tip to add:
On LinkedIn there are “interview prep” questions and you can video yourself answering them via your webcam (the video) stays private unless you choose to share it). Quite nifty. Although of course you can also just record yourself on your phone. Here’s the link.
