English with Kirsty – episode 34
I’m worried about my pronunciation
Some of my customers tell me that they are worried about their pronunciation and whether others are able to understand them. I give some tips about what you can do if you are worried about this.
1. Identify the problem – try to get feedback from a teacher or a friend.
2. Identify any groups of letters that are difficult for you to pronounce and practise reading texts aloud, concentrating on these letters.
3. Get plenty of listening practice. This will also help you to learn where the emphasis should be placed on words.
4. Some groups of letters can be pronounced in a number of ways. Bear this in mind when you are learning new words that include these letters. Examples are “ough”, “augh” and “ch”.
