There are a number of idioms and common phrases in English which refer to animals. Here are a few of them.

The sentences can be completed using the words from the below list. Do you know which creature belongs with which sentence? Also, do you know what the phrases mean?

  1. hi kirsty; this was a funny post. but i expect the message was for students having trouble remembering phrases. I knew all of them in english but only a couple in spanish. Keep up the good work, max

  2. Yes, the post was to introduce students to some of the animal-related phrases that they may see or hear in English. I think they are a bit shy though because nobody has tried to do the exercise yet!

    I only know “The early bird catches the worm”
