What could you learn from your younger self?

“I often see posts asking us what we would say to our younger selves. What advice could we give them now?
I’ve contributed to them. I see the value in them. In fact, I wrote one last week about the things I’ve learned since I started my business 14 years ago.

But I think another good question is – what can you learn from your younger self?

What would primary-school-aged Kirsty do? How would she approach things?

She didn’t have the wisdom of an adult, but she wasn’t afraid to be creative.

She didn’t think much about failure. For that matter, she didn’t care much whether other people thought she would succeed – she was more focussed on the new thing that she wanted to try or learn. If something didn’t work, try something else!

She was full of life and questions and enthusiasm!

Adults were her friends and she would talk to them, expecting an interesting conversation! Other children not so much 😂

She would sing without caring whether anyone was listening and have conversations with every animal she met – the last part hasn’t changed! (The dog in the photo is my childhood friend, Cindy).

Some of these qualities, such as curiosity, determination, focus on what you’re doing and not on what others might say, are actually super useful when you’re running a business or learning a language.

How about you? What could you learn from your younger self or how could that version of yourself inspire you today?”
