At the weekend I went for a walk in the nature. I love to do that.
I sat for a while on a bench under a tree. I’ve sat there before, but on that day, the wind was blowing through the leaves and it felt as though I could hear each one of them as it rustled in the wind.
I’ve heard the wind in the trees many times, but this time I was actually paying attention to the tree music. It was like the tree was an instrument and the wind was playing it. A familiar sound, but somehow new because I was present enough to notice it.
I then started thinking it would be good to be more like that tree. Grounded in the earth, but flexible enough to move as the wind blows through the branches. To go with it when things don’t go as we think they should because maybe there’s something better. To know where you’re going, but not stick so rigidly to the plans when life happens like the unexpected gusts of wind.
Also, it’s easy to be so busy that, even if we take a break, we’re thinking about the next thing that needs to be done, the unanswered messages, the meetings that are coming up, the plans we have…
I felt better after listening to the tree music for a while!
When was the last time that you were still enough to really see and hear what was happening around you? Where do you like to go when you want to take some time for yourself?
