English with Kirsty – interactive workshop series
5 reasons why advanced language learners feel stuck and what you can do instead
Maybe you’ve been using your additional language for so long that you wouldn’t even call yourself a language learner. But I use the term here, because we never stop learning!
This workshop is for you if you feel that you’ve reached a good level in another language. You know there’s room for development, but you can’t figure out how. You’ve been stuck at the same level for a while and that can be frustrating.
This workshop will help you to come unstuck. General resources for language learners are too easy for you. You maybe use your additional language at work or with your friends, but somehow you feel that you’re just not making progress. We’ll look at some common sticking points and some new activities or ways to approach the situation to get things moving for you again.
Talking about challenges and solutions can be a dry topic, so I wanted to make it a bit more light-hearted by looking at some dog breeds and their characteristics to demonstrate some of the challenges and solutions. But the tips are serious and practical so that you can leave the workshop with fresh ideas.
For example, our golden retriever is a perfectionist who wants to get everything right. But this can be stressful and sometimes nothing gets done at all. Other times things take too long. Do you relate?

Our spaniel has a time and resource management problem. Lots of ideas and lots of enthusiasm, but when you have so many ideas, it’s hard to know where to start and because of this, nothing ever changes. Ever felt like that spaniel?
Then there’s our labrador, our German shepherd, and our border collie. You’ll have to attend the workshop to find out what their challenges are!
If you love languages and dogs, that’s great! If you just love languages, come along anyway – you’ll still learn something!
