Some people love talking about themselves and they could do it all day … but most of us find it more of a challenge!
A job interview is our chance to show who we are, what we can do, what we bring to an organisation, and also, something that’s often overlooked, to see whether we do in fact want to work for that organisation!
There’s a lot going on. It’s normal to feel under pressure, even when you’re working in your first language. If the job interview, or part of it, is in an additional language, this can bring new challenges and considerations. “Can I come across as confidently and competently as I usually do?” Often the main way we sabotage ourselves in these situations is if we overthink it or focus too much on the “what if” situations that our brain has less capacity to find the right words.
But in any event, good preparation and a mindset that supports you will help on the day itself.
My role is to support you in that preparation process. I will help you to talk about yourself and your achievements clearly and confidently in English.
We will
- Practise answering a range of questions, both general and specific to your personal situation, so that you can prepare your answers in a relaxed atmosphere;
- Discuss any issues relating to how you introduce yourself, highlight your strengths and discuss challenges.
- Practice speaking about your experience and achievements with clarity and confidence;
- Work on answering unexpected or more difficult questions.
- Discuss examples that you can use in situation-based questions.
- Discuss some strategies for dealing with nerves or anxiety.
You will still have to do the interview, but the training will help you to feel more confident because you will have prepared, practising and polishing your performance.
